Hi everyone — We just got back from the beach — it’s just after high tide — so there’s not much beach left. But the waves are crashing and the wind is picking up.
We’ve battened down our hatches as much as possible and most of our neighbors are doing the same. Staying in — at home, waiting and watching.
I’ll be back with my regular Monday Musings next week and hope that all of you, who may be in the path of Sandy, stay safe and warm with your loved ones. Take care everyone and hopefully I’ll still have power in the next few days to give you updates.
Be well my friends,
Brigitte
Enjoy some Jimmy Buffet and have a safe and happy Monday!
Brigitte,
Amazing photos. Be safe and know that our thoughts are with you during the storm.
Love,
Cathy
Thank you, Cathy, we will. And thank you for your thoughts and kind words. Love, Brigitte
Great photos Brigitte! These are frame worthy. Looking forward to hearing that you weathered the storm with no problems. Love Buffet – enjoy cozying up with your Hubby!
Thanks, Honie. They were hurriedly snapped as the wind was blowing sand in our faces. That is the plan, spaghetti and lots of Soprano episodes. Thank you, my friend.
Scary stuff, B. Stay safe – rename the blog ‘Brigette’s Batten’.
Thanks, Mike! Ha! I may have to consider that… 😉
I love the random coconut 🙂 Take care and stay safe.
I know…weird, huh? Thank you R&R.
Be see, Brigitte! Thinking about you and yours and sending good thoughts and prayers!
We will, Michelle — thank you so much.
Wishing you safety and warmth and no electrical outage. We are going to get something, but nothing like the east coast. (hugs)
Thanks, Lou Ann. The news is scary and you wonder if it’s real or if it’s not. Anyway, we are good and they’re saying it’s going to get worse at night. And it’s a full moon. Anyway, thank you!
Oh, be safe, Brigitte!! I hope Sandy stays away or loses her strength. You’re pictures are gorgeous even so. I love the coconut!
Thanks, Bumble. I hope so too, this wind if definitely picking up!!
Stay safe Brigitte – I’m thinking good thoughts for you and all those around you. Most of my family are on Long Island and in Brooklyn….so I’m sending ALL my positive thoughts that way…
Thanks, Ruta — so much. Hope your family stays safe as well. xo
I want a coconut! Be careful. Have a hurricane party, it helps :).
A party is always a good idea. Thank you, Becca. I’ll have to see if that coconut’s still there…maybe I’ll do a giveaway…a Sandy coconut. :).
It could work!
Keep safe, I’m thinking about you.
Thank you BroJo — that’s very nice of you.
I am glad you checked in with us. I love the photos but not the weather.
You’re welcome and glad you did too, Audra. Thank you! Wind’s up a bit since then, but I’m hoping all will be well. Take care!
holy smokes on the wind.. geeze it really has cranked up and we are far in the hills! just brewed coffee and bottled in my thermos. Locked and ready 🙂 Hubby, teen, dog, snacks and books — check check and all good :0)
Yeah, here too. They’re saying we could get 90mph winds. Went through that before so you gotta do what you gotta do. That thermos coffee thing may be a very good idea. We have the same (doggies instead of teen, but you know what I mean). Take care of you, friend.
Brig, beautiful pics! The one of the coconut cracked me up. Thinking of you during the storm. Be safe, my friend, be safe.
Thanks, Em. Don’t ya just love that coconut? Thank you for your warm thoughts and we will.
It’s starting to whip up here, too. The Hudson, usually many feet below the banks up in our neck of the woods, is nearly level with the grass along the riverside bike path. Even so, we’re up on a hill so no worries. Jimmy Buffet – a favorite! I’ll have to dig up “A Salty Piece of Land,” one of his novels, and re-read it with sweet husband! Stay warm & dry, my friend! xoxoM
Hey Margarita, you be safe too, my friend. Jimmy Buffet makes everything better, but I’ve never read that book! Take care of you and yours and thank you for stopping in. xxoo
Good luck. I hope you hold onto your power (in all forms 🙂 ).
Thanks, Carrie — will try my very best. ;).
I’m with the masses; I like the picture of the coconut, Brig. The wind is blowing outside my window and I can see that the tree that would likely crash through my neighbor’s hovel if it uproots (hopefully it will remain firmly planted) has far fewer leaves on its branches today than yesterday. The leaves seems to now be blanketing the gardens below … Reporting from Manhattan’s Upper West Side. My friend that lives near the Jersey Shore just reported that the wind near her is fierce and loud, but her two hounds are snoozing through it peacefully. I have a theory that pets, with their sixth sense, are a good barometer for the severity of the situation, but I suppose that it’s possible that her pooches are just too pampered to realize there’s weather-related trouble brewing outside.
Hi V, thanks for letting me know what’s going on your way — are the streets quiet? I love that coconut — may have to go back and get it as as memorabilia of Sandy. Its blows really hard here, then calms down. I freaking hate it that it’s not getting here until night — something creepy about that and it’s a FULL moon. I do think you’re right about pooches. I have two of them and they’re splayed out on the couch sleeping peacefully so that’s a good sign. Stay safe and warm, my friend and thank you.
Hey Brig, I just posted this live New York Times building webcam link over on Audra’s site so you can see how the storm looms over Manhattan:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/10/28/nyregion/nyt-webcam.html?hp
It’s kinda cool. I’m with you about being concerned about what’s in store tonight. That could be when we’re all knocked off our axis. Good thing I’m in survival mode and I have stocked up on wine and caramel apples.
That is so sweet — how the heck did you do that? Yep, we stocked up on the wine too.
Do what? Embed the link? Or stock up on caramel apples to survive a hurricane?
Stay safe my friend!
Thank you, Jackie.
Stay safe! We’re battened down in Maryland, too.
Good, be safe — You guys are getting it too — you take care, JM.
Great Photos – Be Safe!
Thanks, Craves.
Those pictures are awesome and I’m sure that solitary coconut could be seen as a metaphor for something (not imaginitive right now to come up with anything). For all of you in the eye of the storm stay safe.
Judith, thank you.
The beach? No, you fool! That’s the LAST place you want to be right now!
And let me state emphatically that I DON’T think you’re a fool at all (quite the opposite; your a rather wise chick), I just thought that word worked better in the line. Beautiful photos of the “calm” before the storm. Where did you take that picture? (I know you live in NY, but the state’s got a bit of a coastline). For whatever reason, I love to know “where” things happened. I look at them on a map. Yeah, I’m a nerd. I think you already knew that.
Stay dry, warm & happy!
And please forgive my grammatical errors (your rather than you’re, that picture rather than those pictures). It’s just after 11 AM, so I’m still waking up.
No prob. I do it all the time…
Hey Smak, we can walk there and we were determined to go out this morning and snap some pics before it got too bad to do so. Thank you and hey, I’m no fool, dude. I know you were kidding. The Long Island part. ;). We will and thank you, my friend.
wow! Thanks for the update! The interwebs is scaring the shit out of everyone. hang in there and anxious to hear more. stay safe!!
We’re good and thank you, J.
Please be safe!!!!
The coconut is a crack up!!
Please stay safe, Brig. I’ve got you in my thoughts and prayers. Meanwhile, it’s a blue sky and perfect weather here in Chicago, which only makes what’s happening to you extra weird. I can’t even imagine.
I’ll be thinking of you.
Grippy
xoxo
Hey Grippy, thanks so much for taking the time to say hello and for keeping me and mine in your thoughts and prayers. Hubby went back to see if he could get the coconut and someone had nabbed it already. Thanks again, my friend. xxoo
Watching this all on the news…wishing you all safety until this blows over!
I hope all goes well … be thinking of you over there
Stay safe and take care!
Stay safe and save the coconut and we can have a celbratory party whenSandy leaves town!!
Stay safe!
Stay safe and well Brigitte, my thoughts and prayers are with you and all the people in Sandy’s path. That coconut is wild – unbelieveable!
Amazing shots – I can’t believe that coconut! Stay safe!
Thanks, Artsi!
Wow!! That looks vicious. I’ve been glued to the T.V. for most of the day keep up with the storm’s progress. My thoughts are with all of you who are living along the East Coast. I hope you and your family will remain safe.
Those waves are unbelievable. Stay safe, my friend.
Blessings. Be safe.
The beach looks terrifyingly beautiful if that makes any sense. But of course, it only stays that way until it really starts wreaking havoc on the shore. Be safe and I’m keeping everyone on the East Coast in my thoughts. Sending positive energy your way!
Be careful ! My poor sister had a huge tree slice her house in half today on Long Island. Very dangerous out there!
Thoughts with you and everyone else on the east coast. A candle burns in my window with prayers.
You continue to be in my thoughts.
Hope you’re safe. It’s been a while since I’ve blog-surfed so I’m catching up. Will be back to see how you fared. Thoughts are with you and family!
Thinking of you, Brigitte, and hoping all is well…xoxoM
and YOU stay safe too! thinking of all our friends and family there. Be well. Read you soon.
have not heard from you for a few days–are you safe and sound?
hello, friend. just checking in to see how you’re doing. i hope all is well. i’m sure you’ve gleaned some gems we’ll be reading about in the future. sending my best to you and your family.
Hi Ron, better now and thank you, my friend.
Relieved to hear from you. The whole country is looking to the East Coast with great empathy. Be well.
